- Discovery & Research
- Conduct stakeholder interviews to understand vision, goals, and design preferences
- Define clear goals and what success looks like for the brand and visual identity
- Identify target audience and create engagement personas
- Audit existing visual assets and competitor or alignment branding
- Identify equity, challenges, opportunities, and design inspirations
- Exploration & Ideation
- Create paper sketches and concept thumbnails
- Develop two mood board concepts, explore color, typography, and style direction, and present for client feedback
- Experiment with visual treatments and preliminary layouts
- Ensure a holistic approach: consider how all elements reproduce across print, digital, and motion, at both small and large scale, and their reusability in templates and design systems
- Be mindful of brand extensions: explore how elements may flex for future sub-brands, campaigns, or program identities
- Visual Identity Design
- Present 2–3 initial logo concepts, developed first in black & white to test strength and versatility
- Refine chosen direction through iterations
- Develop logo concepts and refine through iterations
- Define typography, color palette, and iconography
- Create secondary visual elements (patterns, textures, illustration style, photography direction)
- Brand Guidelines
- Compile all visual identity elements into a cohesive brand standards document
- Include usage rules (logo clear space, color ratios, do’s & don’ts)
- Cover applications for print, digital, and physical materials
- Implementation
- Roll out visual identity across marketing materials, digital platforms, and collateral
- Provide final file delivery: logo and identity assets in multiple file types and formats (vector, raster, black & white, RGB, CMYK, Pantone)
- Supply an organized asset library for ease of use by internal teams and external partners
- Train internal teams or partners on correct usage
- Monitor consistency and update elements as needed
